Artistic Director Noreen Young (Order of Canada, 1995) is an award-winning puppeteer and puppet builder.
Noreen has held roles as designer, writer, and was the creator of “Under the Umbrella Tree” – a popular CBC television children’s series that ran from 1987 – 1997 on the CBC network and subsequently on The Disney Channel. The series was translated into French for the Canal Famille in Quebec.
Noreen was also the puppeteer for “Dodi”, a main character on CBC’s “Sesame Park”, the Canadian version of Sesame Street. She is known for her caricature puppets of famous people such as former Governor General Adrienne Clarkson, CBC broadcaster Peter Mansbridge and hockey commentator Don Cherry plus prominent personalities from her hometown of Almonte. Her caricature puppets of Canadian Prime Ministers now reside in the collection of the Canadian Museum of History.
Noreen is a recognized figure in local schools where she does many puppet workshops with students. She is a founding member of Puppets Up! International Puppet Festival.
