Something Up Our Sleeves

It’s happening again. You’d think they’d be tired, but after a full day of festival performances, Puppets Up! puppeteers are always ready for a walk on the wild side. Once again this year, Puppets Up! presents its adults-only cabaret for those who just don’t find the daytime shows to be naughty enough.

Matt Ficner, producer of the infamous Puppets Up! adult cabaret, promises the usual “controlled chaos” for this year’s evening cabaret. Something Up Our Sleeves pulls back the curtain to reveal some of the magic behind puppetry and puppet performances. In addition to all of the zany antics and jokes, the cabaret show will offer a sneak peek at how puppets come to life. Lawrence Smythe, who has performed at Puppets Up! in the past, is the featured puppeteer/performer, but all of the visiting troupes get into the act somehow.

The performance begins at 8 p.m. on August 11 in the Almonte Old Town Hall. On July 23 Cabaret tickets will be available at Baker Bob’s (613) 256-7674 or at Mill Street Books (613-256-9090), along with tickets for the full festival.
