Almonte Old Post Office

The Puppets Up! International Puppet Festival is held annually in Almonte, a ward of the Town of Mississippi Mills. Like the river, a strong current of community runs through the towns, villages, hamlets and rural areas of Mississippi Mills.

Just west of the City of Ottawa, our local communities reflect a diverse mix of rural and small town interests and comprise over 500 square kilometres of land within Lanark County.

The Mississippi River crashes through the heart of Almonte, a constant reminder that its speed and power once fueled a thriving textile industry. Known for its diverse arts and music scene, stunning waterfalls, remarkable architecture, and eclectic local population, Mississippi Mills is easily one of the most charming and friendly communities in Eastern Ontario. Its famous citizens include physician and sculptor, Robert Tait Mackenzie, and the inventor of basketball, Dr. James Naismith.

The Puppets Up! festival is staged in and around the old stone main street of Almonte. The gentle vibe of this riverside community permeates all aspects of this world-class festival of fun.
